The McLaren P1 has left lasting impressions on enthusiasts all over the world, not only with its sleek and slippery design, but also with the immense grunt that comes along. The 903-brake horsepower hybrid monster is not exactly lacking in the power department, but it certainly has not been pushed to its absolute limit. Demonstrating the true potential of this new hypercar, McLaren had put away all restrictions and came out with a terrifying track machine; the P1 GTR.
With its existence being confirmed back in June, the P1 GTR had recently got its global debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Designed and developed by the guys at the McLaren Special Operations, this is to date the most powerful model they had ever produced.
Still packing the same twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine found in the MP4-12C supercar, McLaren had boosted the power up and with the help of the electric motors, it now has 986-horsepower. Not exactly what you will call as insufficient. And one should also remember that with the weight reduction this P1 GTR has undergone, the power to weight ratio for this machine will simply be immense.
But MSO did not only focus on the power department as other modifications have also been made. The front track has been increased by 80mm and has been fitted with a massive front splitter. The aerodynamics of the car has also been tinkered with, with the most visible change being the massive fixed rear wing. The wing features a Drag Reduction System (DRS) to boost performance in providing extra downforce compared to the road car. One could not also escape from seeing the new twin exhaust system made from Inconel and titanium alloy.
McLaren said that they will start the production of the P1 GTR once the 375-unit run of the P1 road car ends. And the price tag that comes along with it? 1.98 million pounds or in our currency, RM 10.43 million.
