BMW reportedly developing a sportier i8S with 500+HP!

The days of labelling a hybrid as a boring and dull vehicle is slowly phasing out, especially when cars like the BMW i8 are hitting the streets. Powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, it is paired with an electric motor to produce a combined output of 357-horsepower. But BMW is certainly having more plans for the i8 as it seems that they might be preparing a more powerful version of the car to celebrate their upcoming 100th anniversary.

Codenamed the M100 and rumoured to be called the i8S, this new model will be based on the current i8 but will feature a range of upgrades to make it sportier. Aside from a more aggressive exterior, the suspension and brakes will also be tweaked for a sharper response.

While that caught our attention, the bit that mentions the power plant got us interested even further. Reports are saying that BMW is considering either a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing about 320-horsepower, or a more tantalizing 3.0-liter six-cylinder power mill with 480 horses. Combine that with the electric motor, zerotohundred can be dealt with in about 3.5 seconds before hitting the limited top speed of 250km/h.

If all goes well, this sportier i8S will be launched somewhere in late 2017 and obviously will be priced higher than the i8.
