BMW M2 To Debut By 2015!

The guys at BMW’s M-division has been rather busy as of late. After the debut of the new F22 2-series almost a year ago, with a warm M235i being the range topper at the moment, they have another ace up their sleeve. Say hello to the new BMW M2, codenamed pyrat2. The new M2 is said to be an even more driver focused hardcore model than its older siblings, namely the M3 and M4.

Powering the new M2 would be the same 3.0L inline-six that powers the M235i, but with a power bump. While the M235i had a healthy 320 hp and 488 Nm of torque, the M2 will likely boast more than 350 hp on tap, but will be less than the bigger brother M4’s 425 hp. To keep the drivers happy, the M2 will reportedly be offered only with a six speed stick shift.

Head of Product Development for BMW’s M division, Carsten Priest said, “It’s about the right balance between power and weight, so you have a car that’s quick enough for acceleration, but agile enough and with an additional edge.” Well, seems to us that the new M2 is a spiritual successor to the legendary BMW E30 M3, or even the recently discontinued BMW 1M Coupe.

The new F87 BMW M2 is expected to make a debut at the North America International Auto Show in Detroit, in 2015.
