2 weeks ago, we took a short trip to Speed City Kuala Lumpur (which ironically isn’t in KL) to have a sneak peek at the Prince of Drift’s preparations for this weekend’s big drifting event – the Formula Drift Asia series. Also known as the ‘Tandem Assassin’, Tengku Djan was busy setting up his latest instalment to his beloved Silvia RPS13. Its been a while since his baby has seen the light of day – simply because the heart transplant is not as simple as it sounds. But nevertheless – the car is all prepped up and ready to drift!
He has dropped the turbocharged SR20 engine and gone for a more torquey, American muscle LS7 V8. This is why you may notice the change of name from 180SX to ‘700SX’ at back. And yes, that means 700 rampaging horses. Djan is confident that with this transplant, it’ll keep him competitive in the chase for the winning title, especially at his own home turf. From the video – he also mentioned how the car’s handling is now ‘sweet’ and exactly how he wants it.
In our short interview with Djan – he mentioned that this year’s competition is going to be tough, with the likes of Fredric Asbo and Robbie Nishida. Of course, not to forget the undefeated champion, Daigo Saito is also around to uphold his crown in his 1000bhp Lexus IS-C.
The Formula Drift Asia series is going to keep petrolheads and enthusiasts everywhere occupied this weekend – on top of the MMER race that is happening in Sepang simultaneously. So we hope to see you guys in Sepang and Speed City KL this weekend and wishing Malaysia happy Merdeka!
