Earlier this month, ‘(00) was invited for Renault’s Lé Rendezvous, at their flagship showroom in Section 13, PJ. What we initially thought was another RS Collectif club event, turned out to be something quite different altogether – a gathering of sorts for car enthusiasts alike, where members from various local car clubs were invited to come along to participate in the fun.
This was definitely something fresh; very few manufacturers here in Malaysia have such close ties with their owners. Launched earlier this year, RS Collectif was set up to serve as a platform to build a community amongst Renault owners in the region. The club gets full support from TC Euro Cars and organizes several track days a year for their members. As you might expect, the RS Collectif members turned up in full force for the Lé Rendezvous initiative.
Other car clubs that were invited were the Volkswagen Club Malaysia, Lancer GT Club, Honda Civic Type R, Italia Auto, Mazda MPS Club, and Mini Club Malaysia. I caught up with Reza Mutalib, General Manager of TC Euro Cars, and asked the obvious question – why were clubs of other marques invited? His response was simple: why not? According to Reza, Le Rendezvous served as an opportunity for the RS Collectif members to meet and chat with other enthusiasts – something that was usually lacking at track days, where people were focused on their runs.
The Lé Rendezvous idea was clearly well-received; over 100 people turned up at the showroom and were treated to a good spread of activities which included a race simulator contest and mini golf. A fleet of cars were also made available for test drives. This included the RS250, RS265, Clio RS, Koleos, as well as the electric powered Fluenze. Naturally, there was plenty of food to go around; there’s no better way to bond than over a makan-minum session after all!
