It seems that it is no rumour that the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is ushering its way out, and will soon be replaced by a brand new sports car still in development by the guys at AMG. And to bid farewell to this unique gullwing German muscle, Mercedes had recently unveiled a special model unimaginatively named as the ‘SLS AMG GT Final Edition’.
This special edition will be making its debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 20th, as well as at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. While Mercedes had yet to release the full specs of the car, they had confirmed that only 350 examples will be made. And we hate to break out the bad news but they did not tinker with the 6.2-liter V8 found in the standard SLS AMG. Then again, 583-horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque is a lot.
But the Final Edition did get a couple of fresh touches, like the carbon fiber hood and splitter, a new rear wing, new brakes and a revised front bumper. The side mirrors have also been bathed with carbon, and that is about it; from what we could see of course.
Since it took quite a long time for the gullwing to make a comeback in the form of the SLS since the original 300SL, AMG’s outgoing boss gives out the assurance that we would not have to wait long for the next one to come out.
