Mazda Greenlights the MX-5 GT from Concept into Production!

The Mazda MX-5 GT was born as a concept and shown to the audiences at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Somehow the guys at Mazda were impressed by this concept built by its racing partner that they have green lighted the GT into production.

“Following a year of development and testing, Mazda handed over the project in its entirely to Jota in 2013 for the Le Mans specialist racing team to take the car to market independently as a Jota Mazda MX-5 GT”, said Jota Sports.

Bearing a price tag of £29,995 (RM 151,720), the GT will only be sold in the UK and costs £10,000 (RM 50,580) more than the MX-5 Roadster 2.0-liter Sport Tech it is based upon. The car also comes with a 3-year standard Mazda warranty for all non-modified parts and an aftermarket extension to cover all the modified parts.

What do you get from all that extra bucks? For starters, the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine is tuned to provide an extra 45-horsepower, bringing it up to 203-horsepower. This reduced the zerotohundred time by 1.5 seconds to 6.4 seconds and according to Jota, the car has a limited top speed of 225 km/h with a “minimal change to fuel consumption”.

Handling of the Miata is improved with an uprated and re-tuned Bilstein dampened suspension, while some other additional features include a carbon fiber diffuser and leather Recaro seats. The MX-5 GT can be further customized with a carbon fiber boot lip spoiler, a carbon fiber front splitter and an Ohlins suspension kit.
