Land Rover Axes the Evoque Convertible from Entering Production

While Lexus’ LF-LC sports coupe is enjoying its ‘upgraded’ status from being a concept car to a production unit soon, Range Rover’s Evoque Concept however could not share the same boat. Although the convertible version of the Evoque still looks pretty great and might be a potential best seller, the British manufacturer somehow came to a decision to not put it into the production lines.

This unique Concept was previewed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, and it did turn heads as there are not much vehicles like this around today. And even with the backing of Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern on the convertible, it is the sleek roofline of the standard Evoque that gives it the distinctive design feature, and removing the roof might only be appealing to a small niche market.

So this means that Nissan’s Murano CrossCabriolet is free to roam the convertible, small-SUV market without any challenge posed by other manufacturers, although it seems there are not many wanting to enter such segment in the first place. But Land Rover still holds to the idea of giving the occupants a wide view from inside the vehicle, and they are planning to launch a version of the Evoque fitted with panoramic roof that could be opened up.
