All auto manufacturers have their own special trademark that makes them unique from the others. Subaru for example is famed for its burbling Boxer engine, and Porsches will always have that evergreen styling feature that is somehow still acceptable in the eyes of today, even though it does not have that much difference from the ones back in the 60’s. These features are still with them today, and it is what gave them an identity that none other has.
Unfortunately for Mazda, they had just lost one of their iconic trademarks that had made them stand out from the others. On 22nd June 2012, they bid goodbye to the famous rotary engine as the last of its kind rolled out from the assembly line after being produced by them since 1967. To be precise, the assembly line that made the RX-8’s Renesis engines was idled, and there are no plans for the moment in having it to restart its production.
It was a challenge for Mazda to keep on using the rotary engine as it does come with high fuel consumption and poor emissions. Even so, Mazda has been working hard in solving/reducing the matters, and there were even some rumors that they are developing a new type of rotary engine called the 16X. Of course, such rumors are immediately squashed with this devastating news, and it will probably need a miracle for this small yet powerful powerplant to make a comeback into the motoring world.

I think all the manufacturer are more concern on cost cutting, hence ceasing all the legendary engine… and producing more economic engines and cars…. Sigh… sad news for cars enthusiast |

Fuel powered cars have entering the beginning of their phrase out era. After the electric powered car development is matured, hybrid eventually will face the same faith. Just like the walkman and VCR player. So don’t blame me for revving all over the place like there is no more tomorrow

Sad news indeed. Next would be high revving NA cars, replaced by efficient turbocharged engines. Proof? Honda’s not producing Type Rs, new M3 is turbocharged…..only Ferrari is adamant in NA V10s and V12s..Who woulde’ve thought, soon NA is for rich people only.

Rumour, heard ferrari new enzo gonna turbocharged..wth every car gonna turbocharge because of Formula-1 engine regulations cause it??? |
|

That’s backwards actually. F1 is going down the turbocharged route because most car makers are turbocharging their cars. It keeps F1 racing relevant in terms of technology i.e for real world application. Turbo’s are popular now because of tight emissions control. A 1.6 liter engine is comparable to a NA 2.0 liter engine in terms of power but less weight, ore efficient and can be cleaner too. As for new Enzogoing for turbos, that’s news to me. I do recall Di Montezolo saying he wants to keep NA V12s for their ultra cars because it’s a significant part of their identity.

IMHO, new technology always replace old technology

real life story, i almost sold my k20a type r . While in the mean of selling, i had some friendly race with an e46 m3 straight pipe. it was all old school high revving.words cant describe the estacy feeling of m3 vs k20a on 9000 rpm. after that race i decided to keep my car. the sensation and spirit of high revving N/A was too irresistible. like the other forumer mention, good engine are dying one by one. 2jz, 4age, 3sge. honda b series 4g63t etc etc etc. it will be mad sad when k20a is history too. 2013 civic 2.0 model is returning to SOHC design instead of DOCH due to all the green green tree. not against the enviroment but its kinda sad where automotive industry is heading. zzz ..
