A few days ago, we have heard of Ford’s departure from the WRC, where they had to pull out due to the current economy situation in Europe. But does that mean Ford is going not to be pouring any support in the growing motorsports scene? The answer is far from no as with the ever-growing popularity in the sideways arena, Ford has just announced their sponsorship as an official partner for the 2013 Formula Drift season.
With its already strong connection to the sport through their support to the Team Falken Tire and great drivers like two-time D1GP champion Vaughn Gittin Jr., Ford’s move in becoming one of the main sponsors is a part of their effort to reach out to their target customers aged 18 – 34, who might bear deep interests to their cars like the Fiesta, Focus, Mustang or the F-150 SVT Raptor.
“Ever since Ford came into the series competitively in 2005, we have seen the power of what a factory-backed effort can do… Now we are even more excited to have them on as an official partner for the final event of the year and into 2013”, said formula Drift co-founder and vice president Ryan Sage.
It is great to know that Ford is still giving out support to keep this popular motorsport segment alive, especially when other factory teams like Hyundai are backing out of it. Hopefully one day Gittin Jr. will come down to Asia with his loud Mustang and have a faceoff with our region’s finest drifters.
