The Sports Activity Vehicle scene is once again re-ignited with BMW Group Malaysia’s introduction of their all new BMW X1 sDrive20i, that’s been designed to meet the needs of the increasingly dynamic modern lifestyle with its contemporary sport-centric design, featuring great versatility and agility and matching a premium interior with superior engine performance and amazing fuel efficiency – characteristics that are typically BMW.
The X1 sDrive20i gets the usual BMW treatment that features all the traits for which BMW are known for and matches them to current requirements and practicalities. The vehicle has been set as the benchmark for driver satisfaction and utility, which continues to offer high levels of efficiency as mentioned by Dr. Gerhard Pils, Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group Malaysia.
According to Dr. Pils, since the X1’s introduction in 2010, the premium SAV has grown to become one of the best-selling BMW models in Malaysia, having created demand that’s seen deliveries of more than 1,000 units of the vehicle in Malaysia alone.
Powered by the multi-award winning 2.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine with TwinScroll turbocharger, direct injection and Valvetronic, it’s capable of producing 184bhp and 270Nm of torque.
The engine is coupled to BMW’s 8-speed automatic transmission with Auto Start/ Stop function. This will help get the X1 to sprint to 100kmh in 7.7s, have an EU consumption standard of 6.7L/100km and will only emit 157gm of CO2 per kilometre.
BMW boasts that the X1 also features the rear-wheel drive sDrive, which is a system that virtually guarantees a 50:50 axle load distribution on any type of road surface, optimising it to respond instantly to every steering command to deliver precision handling, which is otherwise unheard of for a vehicle of its segment.
The car also benefits from excellent steering ability thanks to the strict separation of steering from the vehicles drive train. Steering power is thus evenly distributed necessitating minimal steering angles which in turn allows the driver to actually develop a feel for road conditions and also received more direct feedback when cornering. As an added benefit, the electric power steering system helps to reduce fuel consumption on the already highly economical BMW X1 even further.
The new BMW X1 also comes with ECO PRO Mode as standard, which helps gear the BMW X1 towards optimised efficiency through the automated management of fuel consumption and even energy used by the car’s air conditioning and other features. The Bonus Range Display in the BMW X1’s on-board computer will show how much additional mileage the driver has gained from these energy-saving measures.
Appearance-wise, the new BMW X1 gets new twin circular headlights that further reinforces the new BMW X1’s premium appeal and the car is given a fresh level of elegance with reduced reliance on plastic trim along the lower body edge and new exterior paint finishes and light alloy wheels for a dynamic sports appeal.
Moving into the cabin, there’s a new driver-centric BMW X1 redesigned centre console with premium quality materials as well as upgraded surfaces and control elements together with a new-look sports steering wheel.
Three full-size rear seats offer spacious comfort to passengers and further make the new BMW X1 a truly valued companion for long distance journeys. In addition, the car features a 40/20/40-split rear seat backrest as standard, making the new BMW X1 the only vehicle in its segment to do so.
Depending on passenger needs, each part can be folded down jointly or individually and each backrest element also has ten settings from which passengers can adjust seating support angles. With the backrests in its normal position, the new BMW X1’s luggage compartment has the capacity to hold 420L, which can be increased to as much as 1,350L with all three rear seat backrests folded down.
From 10th November 2012, BMW’s all new BMW X1 sDrive20i will be made available for purchase at BMW dealerships throughout Malaysia. Available in exterior colours of Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Midnight Blue, Mineral Grey, Sparkling Bronze and Valencia Orange, and a choice of Nevada Beige Leather or Nevada Black Leather for the interior, the retail price (on the road, without insurance and with BMW Service + Repair Inclusive (BS+RI) for the new BMW X1 sDrive20i is RM238,800.
