Bentley Motors showcases the World of Bentley at Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur.

This morning saw Bentley Kuala Lumpur open their doors for the World of Bentley exhibit, to both members of the motoring media and invited guests (we wrote about this several weeks back here). A large fleet of Bentley Motors were assembled at the flagship store at Bentley Kuala Lumpur, which included the flagship Mulsanne and sumptuous Continental GTC in V8 engine formats. Almost everything Bentley was on display at the exhibit – from engine components, brakes, upholstery in various stages of completion, body panels… even a section of the actual, original picket fence that was used to enclose spectators at the Le Mans circuit; presented to Bentley Motors by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest in 1982, in recognition of the marque’s contribution to the worldwide fame of the 24 hour race.

As we reported before, the actual car that broke the world ice speed record, driven by four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen up to a terminal speed of 330.695km/h also made an appearance. The all-wheel drive Continental Supersports Convertible is powered by bio-fuel, and came complete with the parachute used to slow it at the end of the record breaking run, for guests to view. With the ISR (Ice Speed Record) Supersports, Bentley is clearly proving that they can swing to both extremities – stripped down, lightweight, record breaking, road-legal car as well as a spacious, sumptuous, definitively British luxury car. Also on display were the Brietling for Bentley timepieces. The watches on display illustrated the spirit and values of both brands: tradition, exclusivity, and technology encased in an aesthetically advanced case, inspired by the Bentley brand.

While there are many unique characteristics that define a Bentley – distinctive design, breathtaking power & performance, refined & exhilarating driving experience, it is perhaps the handcrafted luxury that truly sets Bentley apart from other manufacturers. And with that, Bentley Motors brought to Kuala Lumpur a little flavour from Crewe, in the form of a master craftperson for a demonstration of skill and to give an insight to how a Bentley is built. Crafting Bentley’s hand-built cars using the finest quality materials takes time; between 3-4 weeks for a Continental, and up to 12 weeks for the Mulsanne. The interior of each Bentley is left in the hands of a single, experienced craftperson who is painstakingly meticulous and is driven by passion for excellence.

The World of Bentley will be held at The Bentley Gallery, 2.68.00 Level 2, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and viewing is strictly by appointment only. You can call their front desk at +603 2162 2033 to make the necessary arrangements. In the meantime, we’ve driven both the V8-powered Mulsanne and Continental GTC so stay tuned for our first impressions!
