Valentino Balboni Interviewed While Driving The Gallardo LP550-2

Valentino Balboni was virtually unknown to a lot of car fans around the world before Lamborghini dedicated a car to him. The Lamborghini LP550-2 Valentino Balboni is named in his honour. Mr Valentino served Lamborghini for 40 years as the head test driver and many touted his job as the best in the world. In fact, he did and still does have the best job in the world, the man was responsible for every Lamborghini model that came out of Sant’Agata since the Miura. It’s been reported that the man has personally tested more than 80% of Lamborghini’s that have ever been built. So trust that this man knows what he’s talking about.

Danish car magazine Bil Magasinet interviewed Mr Valentino while he drove his namesake car. He talks about the development of the car and his story with Lamborghini. My personal favourite is when he says, (*Italian accent* and I would like to dedicate this quote to all R35 fans) – “four-wheel-drive is comfortable, easy, safe… pleasant car to drive.. it makes everybody excellent drivers… the two-wheel-drive car is a car, with this kind of power, that needs to be driven, you need to control the car, the car doesn’t control you”. Great video, enjoy and envy the man with the best job in the world.

The special edition rear-wheel drive Lambo is powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine to push the1,380kg (3,042 lbs) car to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph).

Which part of "Valentino Balboni was virtually unknown to a lot of car fans around the world before Lamborghini dedicated a car to him." mentioned or meant EVERY CAR FAN IN THE WORLD...?

Read with your eyes, not your elbow. Digest and respond with your brain, not your heart.

I never heard of Balboni until this car came out and not feeling bad about it. Infact, I respect the Italians for honoring their long-serving employee with a special edition car named after him. Another great automotive piece by Lambo!

@ DtG - Can't you read bro? He said 'a lot of car fans', not 'every car fans'. And why do you assume the author doesn't know Balboni prior to the car's launch?

People like you make the rest of us look bad. Peace out.

Valentino's story is that of a fairytale. As a very young man he walked past the factory one day and saw that the Lamborghini workers were busy pushing the bodywork into the factory. In the 60s the Lambo bodies were made by Touring, a coachbuilder who would then send them to Lambo to be mated to their chassis. Bertone would later take over as coachbuilders when Touring went bust.

Valentino offered to assist in pushing the bodywork into the factory which they accepted. When he finished, he was called by a supervisor(I think) and he was asked whether he'd like to come back to the factory and work. The rest as they say is history..
