New Proton Inspira now available for booking!

The much anticipated Proton Waja replacement model is now available for booking. Codenamed the Proton P3-90A, or now officially known as the Inspira, the new car was unveiled today at a soft launch at Proton’s HQ – the Center of Excellence.

The car is a product of a partnership with Mitsubishi and is based on Mitsubishi’s successful Lancer. Unlike the Lancer available locally, the Inspira will be available with the choice of a 1.8-liter with a 5-speed manual transmission, a 1.8-liter with a 6-speed virtual ratio CVT gearbox (both are Mitsubishi’s own 4B10 engine’s), or a range topper 2-liter 4B11 powerplant with CVT transmission as well except it will come with steering column paddle shifters.

The new Proton Inspira is now open for booking at any Proton dealer nationwide with a minimal depost if just RM1,000. Proton is also offering a 2 years or 50,000km (whichever comes first) free service package to to those who make their bookings by the 15th of November 2010 and receive their car before the 31st of December 2010.

While the Inspira may look like a rebadged Lancer, the Inspira has about 25% local products at launch with the final aim of being 65% Malaysian within a year. The time lapse is to ensure that local vendors are fully prepared to provide the parts needed to build the car.

Proton has not revealed the final pricing of the car but says that the tentative pricing starts from RM79,888 OTR for the 1.8 manual up to no more than RM95k for the 2-liter range topper. Official pricing will be officially revealed at the launch on the 10th of November 2010.
