Bugatti ups itself – New Veyron Super Sports edition sets new top speed record

When it comes to going fast in a straight line, no road going car does it better than a Bugatti Veyron. But even the mighty Veryon is approaching the end of its line, and that just means one thing – special edition models.

While the special editions have already started sometime ago, the fastest of them all is this, the Super Sports. To prove that Bugatti sent its official test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel to Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessian high-speed oval with the first of the Super Sports edition to see what exactly it could do.

Also accompanying Pierre Henri were representatives from the Guinness book of records and the German Technical Inspection Agency (TUV) just to legitimize the showdown.

The Super Sports features uprated power figures, up from 1001hp to 1200hp and massive torque figure swelled up to 1106lb-ft and a revised aerodynamic kit to keep it all planted to the road. The new Super Sport managed runs of 428km/h and 434km/h for an average terminal velocity of 431km/h and a new world record for a production car.

The Veyron Super Sports will be publicly shown for the first time at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. The first five production Super Sports will feature the same black and orange finish as the record car and all production models will be electronically limited to 415km/h to protect the tires.
