Mystery BMW M3: New Video, New Photos, More Information

More news on the mystery BMW M3 that was caught lapping the ‘Ring over a week ago. Our sources spies were again on hand to catch the car testing and this time they even managed to get a video of the lapping the ‘Ring at a rapid pace.

Some of you previously suggested that it could just be a M3 owner having fun at the ‘Ring. But according to our source, the number plate is registered to BMW and the guys behind the wheel of the car are BMW engineers, this lends credibility to the theory that BMW is working on something big or possibly just testing future models or powertrains.

We previously assumed that BMW was working on either a CSL model (though BMW has consistently denied this) or a street legal GT4 race car. Our source is also suggesting that BMW could be working on a CS version, previously seen in the E46 as a sugar coated CSL. Well we still don’t know for sure but there’s a clue in the new photos; a small KW Suspension badge appears on the bottom right corner of the boot lid. This could mean the German suspension specialist is co-developing a new suspension, making the CS/GT4 theory more plausible. Or BMW engineers could just be putting on stickers to throw off spy photographers.

The M3 in the video is riding lower than usual but the rudimentary high-flung rear spoiler, front splitter and roll cage indicate something more purposeful. Given KW’s supposed involvement and the suspension specialists focus on coilover systems and not the entire aero package, the CS or GT4 theories are more widely accepted rather than the car in hand being a mule for future technologies of powertrains. We’ll continue waiting and speculating till BMW confesses.

Haha.. i guess my theory that it was "just a BMW Owner who modded his M3" has been correctly proven wrong then!
