Stunning Eddie Lew Claimed His First ATCS Win

eddieliewstart_vMalaysian driver Eddie Lew took home his first win in Round 2 of the Asian Touring Car Series at Sepang International Circuit today. It was a good clean race in which 18 of the 25 starters completed the 10-lap outing.

Lew beat the Thai favourite, Jack Lemvard, who suffered from a tyre valve tear after a scuffle at the start of the race. Lemvard had to pit to change his right rear tyre and rejoined the race at the tail end and slowly climbed back up the ranks to finish seventh.

Lew, who started from fifth in the reverse grid order, was elated with the win, citing good luck and having a great start for the result. “I managed to get a good start from fifth and by the first turn I was already ahead of everyone. I really had luck on my side today” said Lew during the post race Press Conference.

By lap four, the Malaysian suffered from a fuel surge problem and was maintaining his pace to the finish. “After the fuel surge, I just maintained my pace and shifted to the lower gears. It was a fantastic race today, with the great competition coming from the Macau drivers, especially Henry”.

Second placed man, Henry Ho put in a strong finish, climbing the podium for a second time today ahead of fellow Macau driver, Mak Ka Lok. At the start, the trio pulled away from the rest of the pack and by turn three, they were separated from the rest.

“I’m very happy with the result today. It was our first time in Sepang in Division 1 which means that we do not have any data to prepare our cars with. The reverse grid order meant I had to start in fourth but I knew that the cars in front could not match our pace so I just waited for the right moment to pass them”.

For Mak, finishing on the podium was surprising as he expected a best finish of fourth at the most. “I am truly lucky today, because of the accident that Jack had, it gave me the chance to have the podium finish. I just drove a safe race and kept my distance. I’m really surprised with third and I’m really happy”.

Daniel Amante Gomes took the win for Division 2, ahead of Lui Man Kit and Malaysian Eric Yeo. Gomes also took to the podium to take third for the Macau Cup alongside Ho and Mak.
