Speed bumps – friends of boring people and our eternal enemy. Some claim our bumpers, scratch our undercarriage, mess up the titanium exhaust system or in other words, they wreck havoc on our cars. They’re not supposed to do that, what they are supposed to do is slow you down – not damage cars.
Meet this new speed bump – the work of designers Jae-Yun Kim and Jong-Su Lee, who, guessing from their names, are Korean. They came up with this new speed bump technology that actually flattens when a car drives over it at low speed. It remains upright when a car is too fast causing all the usual drama that conventional speed bumps are known for.
That’s not the only thing that’s so lovable about these driver friendly speed haters – they are also fitted with LEDs all around so there’s no sudden nasty appearance out of nowhere – something that Malaysian speed bumps love to do. The designers say their goal was to encourage drivers to maintain a constant slow speed, reducing the amount of stops and starts made, and thereby reducing the amount of exhaust pollution from the car. The sad thing? They’re just concepts for now.
