SINGAPORE, 8 December 2008 – For the second time in a month, the 2008 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix and the Marina Bay circuit are recipients of a major international award. Representatives from the Grand Prix were presented with the Autosport Pioneering and Innovation Award at the Autosport Awards at gala event in London (Sunday 7 Dec) attended by some of the most influential personalities in motor sport, including F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.
The FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix venue was commended both for the revolutionary track lighting and the spectacular way in which it wove the track through the heart of the city.
Colin Syn of Singapore GP received the award from McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen on behalf of the race.
Said Autosport of the Pioneering and Innovation Award; “It wasn’t just the sight of floodlit racing that went down well. The Marina Bay street circuit itself also received plenty of deserved praise. Comparisons with Monaco were fully justified, as the track blended beautifully into the cityscape and made excellent use of landmarks such as the historic Anderson Bridge.”

The Autosport Awards are presented by Autosport Magazine, the world’s most widely read motor sports weekly. The awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Central London was attended by over 1,000 people and is regarded as one of the most highly respected on the motor sport calendar.
