AFOS is all-abuzz with the hottest news these days, with one of the most exciting race category ever to take place in Asia, the 1500Max Challenge or 1500Max for short welcomes its newest contender; Proton AXLE Racing Team.
Malaysia’s first F1 driver Alex Yong is now broadening his racing horizons to include a different aspect of motor sports. Working closely with Proton and receiving support from Plus, Alex will be team principal of TEAM AXLE and he has set up a young and dynamic team of drivers who look set to leave the rest hanging. The team consists of Malaysian go-karting champ Syafiq Ali, MME Champ Faidzil Alang and the co-host of StarSports’ Engine Block, Sanjeev Palar.
Team AXLE will compete with some of Asia’s best drivers in cars that are below 1599cc, such as the Honda Jazz, Peugeot 206, Toyota Vios, Proton Gen 2 or Saga, Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Aveo and the like. AXLE will be competing in a Proton Satria Neo R3 that is powered by a 1599cc, 120hp (on wheel), with the torque and gearbox being the only area where teams could get a technical advantage over another. If that seems puny to you, the car has to weigh in at a featherly 970kgs (with driver), does the 120hp seem puny now?
With a two car race team consisting of decorated drivers with hours of grueling tests in their hands, it is without a doubt that spirits are high and determination the order of the day, with the race series scheduled to travel to key regional markets for Proton, expectations are also high. Catch them at this weekends Asian Festival Of Speed at the Sepang International Circuit.
