It was a typically hot Sepang day when driving enthusiasts numbering in the hundreds descended upon the Sepang International Circuit. This time in much larger numbers than previous High Performance Challenge (HPC) events. New cars and old, fast cars and not-so-fast cars, expensive and junks, it doesn’t matter what you drive, here all share the driving passion. Or are here to acquire the skill through the driver training program.
Drivers were separated into three groups according to their experience level; Group 1 is exactly what you think it is – for beginners who require a trainer, Group 2 – for drivers with some track experience or have gained the trainers trust to drive alone and Group 3 is for experienced drivers who are well versed in track driving and ethics. Sessions are divided into the morning and the afternoon session and each group in either session goes out at different times to ensure maximum safety.
Drivers from as far away as Singapore and Penang drove all the way down just for this day and it once again lived up to its thrilling promises. Unlike previous HPC events where drivers were confined to either the north or south track, this past Sunday’s event utilized the entire circuit and this was probably key to the huge turnout and also points to what future HPC events have in store.
The HPC is a great way to hone your driving skills and to better understand your vehicle. And once you’re passed that, you would be hooked on the great fun track driving has to offer. Its too bad that it doesn’t happen very often but when it does, its a great way to spend your Sunday.
