As its arch rivals busy themselves with launch after launch of some of the most gorgeous cars in the world and if these rendering are to be believed, Audi is seemingly saving the best for last. Ingolstadt is expected to introduce the A7 Coupe and Cabriolet next year with sales to kick off in 2010. The A7 will be based on the next generation A6, which basically means it too will be built on a lightweight aluminium platform with various steel reinforcements.
Car UK reports that air suspension be standard on all high-end models, and unless sales don’t surpass the expected 40,000 units, four-cylinder power won’t happen. The engine line up will include a diesel powered 2.8 liter V6 FSI and 3 liter V6 for the base models while petrol lovers will get to pick between a 2.7 liter and a 3 liter V6 with either one or two turbos.
Audi’s monstrous 5 liter V10 engine will also find its way into the line up and is expected to power the RS7 while a detuned version could power the S7. All the engines will be mated to various six and seven speed manuals. autos and dual clutch S-tronic boxes.
These aren’t mere pie-in-the-sky renderings. CAR Online has obtained an exclusive design sketch from the corridors of power in Ingolstadt, and the red drawing confirms the direction Audi is heading in for its CLS fighter.
