Who would have thought? From commercial bus manufacturing and drinking bottle designing, the same company has come up with the Mastretta MXT, claimed to be the first-ever car designed and built in Mexico.
Developed in house by the Mastretta design team, the MXT project has benefited from a two year collaboration program between Mastretta and engineering companies based in England and the USA (I won’t be surprised it it’s Lotus!).
It’s a 900kg lightweight sports coupe, with a 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine driving its rear wheels to offer nearly 240bhp and 184lb-ft, a top speed of 150mph and 0-60mph in less than five seconds. The MXT is a two seat, mid engine sports car Mastretta Design intend to sell in both local and international markets.
Constructed around a semi-monocoque chassis of bonded aluminium, the MXT has fibreglass body panels and double-wishbone suspension front and rear; it has a quick-ratio steering rack, ventilated disc brakes and ABS, plus a leather-trimmed interior.
The MXT will start full production in January 2009 and deliveries are scheduled for May 2009.
