Dear Sifu's and owners of Evo's,

My wife wants to get a 4 door sedan car and after having sold her S15 off early this year, she was contemplating between a 2nd hand nicely done up Lancer GT (bodykit evo10) but unfortunately we havent had the luck in finding for a suitable car and hence i came up with the brilliant idea of a lancer 7.5GTA as she hates to drive manual and since the 7.5GTA has triptronic, its the best for her( by the way if you're wondering her S15 was auto turbo)
My question is are there any issues with the gearbox as i was told by a mechanic that if the 7.5 shares the same engine and transmission with the Airtrek, then the gearbox has the tendancy of failing easily.
Everyone is welcome to comment and if anyone of you who have friends who are either selling off their Lancer GT (budget not more then RM85k but if the car got loads of barang then i wont mind paying a bit more)
I was in the midst of gorenging my wife to get the 7.5gta until i was told of the transmission problems, so if i can get a positive feedback here then i will continue my gorenging/brainwashing session!
Cheers!

I don't think the GTA has any gearbox problems until you up the boost or power of the engine. If stock engine then the stock gearbox no problems la. But you and your wife sound like power junkies so I wouldn't know....

imho GTA already is quite a quick car by itself without mods so why would you want to mod it more anyway?

damnthing,

Brilliant idea of a Lancer Evo 7.5GTA for love ones.

But for me it will not a brilliant idea to let Evo to roam in KL.
due to safety reason & increasing crime rates.
For me, maintainance wise no so brilliant for myself as daily ride.
You will be poison by other brilliant owners to mod your car...

Have a friend ride a 7.5GTA & brilliantly mode the car.
Now facing brilliant problem to maintain it due to auto gearbox.
Just brilliantly maintain the car.... you will be OK :driver:

After all Evo are brilliant car... :smokin: but I'm not so brilliant

Thanks guys for the info. The speed junkie was actually me, buy my wife "terjebak" by following me for my silvia drives! My wife is seldom in town, she probably will be using the car that she buys at most 15 days in a month, if not the car would be parked under the porch. So it kinda wont be a daily driven car like my S15, she will only be using the car when she is in town. i also need to know if its reliable enough cause my 8 month old son will be in it with my wife, dont want the car that she will be owning to breakdown in the middle of federal highway!
And i have no plans of touching the engine bay, although everytime i say that i keep doing otherwise!! Thanks to brilliant friends who have the tendancy of knowing how to racun me!
So guys, is it safe to sum up that;

1) If going for the 7.5GTA, leave it as it is and i wont end up with a screwed up gearbox.
2) if looking for a 7.5GTA, try to look for one which is a "virgin" or at least nothing done to the engine?

Pangyau: that friend of your's who is having problems with the gearbox, prior to him modding the car, he never had issues with the gearbox eh?

And one last questions, what are the tell tale signs of a 7.5GTA with a screwed up gearbox?

Once again, thanks guys!

damnthing,

If its so... then no problem getting the ride you mentioned.
Just do a normal check-up when you needed.
Normal wear & tear parts are normal for (top-toe) ageing car.

A friend of mine increasing the power (internal parts, cam & such)
Good for few month with the power upgrade.... then "Hantam Kaw-kaw".
The gearbox produce "gek-gek" & jerking while changing gear (any gear).
Solution unknown... coz still at the workshop...

To know the car a good???... you need to read at (refer the link):
I also read it from there... many info...

Since you also familiar with JDM, no problem la...

If u dont care about the petrol's price, just get 1 for your wife  I believe stock ecu for gta eats up petrol, but can fix by reflashing ecu maybe.

The gearbox wont cause any problem if u change the gearbox oil in schedule. U just need to smoothly change the gear,if u change gear for example N->D too fast for quite a few times especially at high rpm, surely the gearbox 'kong' (happened to me for 2-3times i think, hands too gatal). Other than that, i dont find the GTA gearbox can cause problem :driver:

hope my info helps :wavey:

Pangyau: Thanks for the link!

Insaniac7.5: Thanks for the info bro, it is surely reassuring coming from someone who owns a GTA. How long have you had your's? The market price for one should be within the range of 90k to 110k rite?

Cheers guys!

Airtrek/GTA INVECSII gearbox is rock solid. Who say it's fragile? It can go up to 350hp no problem. Just do proper periodical maintenance and add an oil cooler if you race with it. Check out Airtreker forum and you'll be able to get more details there.

Bro.. just a suggestion from my personal opinion. I have been thinking about the same question 3 years ago. I made my mine on Airtrek. Here are the reasons why:

1) Big cabin space, can carry a lot of stuffs, especially for family use.
2) Good for long distance, big rear legroom and passenger cabin space.
3) Sun & Moon roof, my kids love it!
4) Similar power terrain from GTA, but 30% lesser in terms of performance compared to GTA. (still can be quite fun if properly tuned).
5) 25% cheaper than GTA, newer in terms of year too.

I've been using for 3 year plus now. Been a good ride. I'm a family man, be it balik kampung or picnic, it's a nice car to be with. Rear seats can be reclined like front seats. Kids sleep during long distance.

Power? I did bolt-ons only. Full exhaust, intake, boost controller, remap ECU... 0 to 100, 6.3secs. More than enough for my daily use. :)

The CR-Z is Honda’s take in bringing both hybrid and motorsports closer together, and it is taking an interesting journey so far. With already a thumbs up on the looks, the CR-Z is now slowly leaving its trace on the motoring scene like its participation in Japan’s Super GT race and also on our own 2012 TIMETOATTACK...
