for those who have watched wangan, there is some part that elaborate a bit about gear ratio for the devil z, my question is,can we mod the stock engine gear ratio wether it is manual @ auto tranny? Sifuses, help please:adore:

u dont mod the engine gear ratio.... engines dont have gear ratios as far as i know...

gearboxes has gear ratios :D n yes, u can mod... take note that "mod" means changing the ratio itself to (usually) an aftermarket one...not doing something to the stock ratio...stock ratio throw 1 side.

not sure about auto tranny's but most gearboxes that are modified are manual trannies... not many people in their right mind would bother modding an auto tranny gearbox.

thanx, now i'm a bit clear about it & that means i need to change the question. Now the question would be
" how to mod so that 1st gear can run longer for redlining (for pick up power) before we change to 2nd gear on a stock auto gearbox & stock engine @ it is not possible? "

example:- rite now driving a 660(A) stock but gear shifting like it is a semi-auto @ fliptronic
usually it gets to 40km/h @ 5500rpm (redline if refer to manual), trying to get it to go up
to 50kmh redline & 2nd gear up to 110kmh redline

Thanx again bro for the help:adore:

All I know is changing to a bigger gear but that would jeopardize the top end?
Can get a bit of this in NFS underground 2

Actually i'm looking for advices as well to mod the gear ratio of my swift auto gearbox. i know this may sound crazy but i've made enquiry on on swift mechanic and they can change the final gear for the auto gearbox at SGD900. But the problem is how reliable is this? I need some sifus here to shed some light. When one changes final gears what will change? As far as i've read the top speed will change too.. other than that i can't seems to get anymore infos.. :banghead:

Can't see why it would effect reliability, considering the FD is well made. Is the FD from another Suzuki model or is it aftermarket?

Shorter FD (Larger Number i.e 4.7) = More acceleration, less top speed
Longer FD (Smaller Number i.e 4.4) = Less acceleration, more top speed

thanx guys coz sharing sum info & relating replies, pmed papagoines before & he said dragster usually know this type of mod. been searching for frenz for sum lights but still in the dark. hope other sifuses could join in 2 later on:adore:

that way, you would lost pick-up...
can change final drive...or each gear...
or play with tyre size...

It wouldn't effect reliably as long as you buy a good FD?
And when we are shifting to the FD, your RPM will drop a lot. Logically.
Because need to compensate the size of the FD.
More top speed, but also mean slower to reach top speed?

Yep, FD won't effect reliability unless you buy a poorly manufactured one. Changing ratios won't effect how the gearbox work mechanically.

The gear ratio (1-5) is still the same as before and since the FD won't effect the gap between your gears, you won't actually experience more rev drop between shifting.

And yes, it's a toss up between acceleration and top speed. The FD will go one way or the other, depending on the ratio that you choose.

One noticeable thing with a shorter FD is your rev will be higher compared to stock while doing the same speed i.e at 100km/h, you'll be revving at 4000rpm compared to 3500rpm previously.

so the final conclusion is, by hook @ by crook need to do aftermarket mod the get the result that i wanted ehh:banghead:, so any suggesstion @ any thread that i might find my answer wit bro's

u want to play gearbox ratio...

the best bet would be swap to manual.....

if auto..it just doesnt worth every penny spend to chase proper ratio while the power loss in the autobox as high as 30%

This calculator might help everyone understanding the gear ratio and final

Car Speed Calculator

Wow, if this calculator is correct, then my top speed would be awesome!!!! But scared to try.

Tyre Diameter = 1855.43 mm
1st Gear = 70.5 km/h
2nd Gear = 108.18 km/h
3rd Gear = 156.18 km/h
4th Gear = 205.7 km/h
5th Gear = 268.53 km/h

that tyre....is higher...than your car...

The "car speed calculator" has an stupid error. It should be TYRE CIRCUMFERENCE instead of tyre diameter.

So in ddv_nk12 case the calculation is correct but 1855.43mm is tyre circumference. However we need to know the differential ratio as well as gear ratios in order to get the more correct result of car speed.

I've compared the gear calculator with real experience.. It matches.. Doesnt mean if the 5th gear can reach 260 kph than your car can do 260kph.. It needed more power to do it..

In my experience a swift zc21s stock can do 180kph at 4th.. But nothing happen when shifted to 5th.. As no more power left..

guys, it's nice to have new knowledge but when comes to real life, i say u can't change or make 1st gear to become 'longer'. Unless u got soo much money, but then i think u don't need kancil anymore, right ?

if u change to manual, u might change a bit but most kancil or mira almost all got same ratio, except a few difference in final drive.
i can't quite remember myself but i think the shortest FD would be JB-JL (L5) 4WD and L2 4WD, second shortest would be (JB-JL) L5 2WD, then L2 2WD, then 660 kancil NA, then 850 NA kancil, then kelisa 1000 NA, but not sure if kelisa one can fit without modification. If u can find kancil 850 NA's gearbox, it would be nice but u don't expect them to be long like in big CC car yeah because manufacturer already know kancil/mira don't have that much torque to pull long gear. Just imagine this, using manual gearbox, just put in 2nd gear from standstill, release the clutch, what happen ? still can drive but to move the car, whole dashboard will vibrate becos our engine doesn't have much torque
