So my PS3 EOL already. This Sunday will go get new tyres. The Goodyear F1 Directional 5 is a tad bit cheaper than the PS3.

My previous experience with PS3 is positive with the exception of the tread falling apart.

How does the GY F1 D5 perform stack against the PS3? Open to suggestions as well for PS3 level of performance, especially in the wet, for a tire size of 195/50 R15.

Budget below RM300/tyre.

Mind telling what car is it for?

How did you find the sidewall of the PS3 (I'm assuming it's in 195/50R15 as well?)

Myvi. Sidewall is slightly softer than PP2. Right before the PS3 I was using Revspec 2, relatively speaking the PS3 is firmer than the Revspec 2. But not being as harsh as PP2. Its comfortable.

Cornering, don't notice it flex that much, and it tracks very well. This is with 34/33 psi in the fronts, 32/31 psi in the rear.

I lower the psi if going long distance/highway driving.

The PS3 is the best tyre I've used so far, overall thumbs up. I'm pondering the GY F1 D5 due to my PS3's tread falling off, which, doesn't affect performance from what I've experience but its not a good feeling.

I've got no interest in Advan Neovas and those super track tyres since this car can't/won't track. My driving style is to keep going at 110km/h (legal speed limit) on highways even if it rains cats and dogs.

Below RM300 XM2
Why want to downgrade from PS3 to XM2 :hmmmm:

Ixeo, just stick back the brand and model that u satisfied. I also running on PS3 with 195 55 r15. I love it and it never disappointed me. I also cruising same speed regardless dry or wet condition. Whacking 90 degree corner at 65km/h on sunny day or raining day. And yes, do agreed with u that this tyres are soft sidewall. But it provides better comfort level.

But is there anyone else who suffer from the same problem on PS3? I mean if there is a lot of them having the same problem then I wouldn't consider it again as well.

PP2 unfortunately, bigger sizes tyres are no longer available. Unless some shops still keeps
them. If you want I can ask my mech and see if he still have it for 15", last time he told me
he have some left but limited. Not too old and not new. I'll see how much he offers.

Some who have used F1D5 says about the same as PS3 handling and traction, but they are directional, so not sure it will become noisier then the PS3 when worn.
For 195/50R15, PS3 probably the best handling tyres for UHP category, unless you want to try GT Radial New extreme tyres the SX2

I'm using the F1-D5 now on my Mark X. So far I'm happy with it, dry & wet grip is very good, comfort also ok, only a bit noisy. Not sure how it compares with PS3 though since I've never used that before. But considering the price, the D5 is a good value for money especially compared to the PS3.

honestly, i would go for the Michelins. Always had good experience with it rain or shine. I'm not sure if it's just me but they also tend to last longer and retain similar feel throughout. But then again, in that price range and for a compact car, I don't think the difference will be substantial even if you go for the Goodyear. D5, as an entry level performance tyre is pretty good too.

Yup, for smaller size tyres, the price do not differ that much. Larger ones, then yes.
However PS3 does wear quite fast, unless is XM2 range....

Yes, when I bought my 17, the price difference was already big, then multiply by 4 some more! Hence I chose the D5 over the PS3.

How much is the D5 and PS3 for 205/45/16 or 205/50/16? Tyres need to be changed soon. Currently on Yoko A-Drive.

I have used both PS3 & F1 D5 on 195/55/15..

All I can say.. because price wise is not much different between both for this size.. PS3 >>> F1 D5

I'm a bit disappointed with F1 D5 as I had high hopes..
aquaplaning is no where near PS3
braking also not as good
noise? about the same
F1 D5 feels more comfy
handling? D5 sometimes a bit squirmy.. i don't know but i prefer PS3.

Maybe for bigger size when price is taken into consideration, maybe F1 D5 seems like a good buy, but when both prices are close it's a no brainer actually.. PS3 wins hands down. (i know a lot of ppl hate PS3 coz of its price, but its a good tire really).

i would rate F1 D5 just above average.

I installed F1 D5, so far so good. Reason I did not wish to go back to PS3 is due to the rubber flaking off, although it did not affect performance, though I kept imagining a tyre explosion.

Yeah, price wise, PS3 and F1 D5, especially at 15" size is negligible.

I'm going for F1 D5 as well. One question though -- on GY website, the size for 15" is 195/50/15 but ZTH price list have 195/55/15 on it. Both sizes available?
