i am looking for a set of rims for my AE92 and i plan to purchaise the SPOON SW388. i love this rim because of its' light weight. However i did heard rumors saying that although this rim is light, it is not that strong. is it true? the reason why i am so particular about this is because i will going to use this rims for my daily use also. Here in Malaysia, the federal roads condition is not as smooth as the highway. So anyone please advice.

nope...its forged rims and its super strong as its used in japanese GT races....the rumors is mainly caused by those imiattion "SPOOM" rims liao!

and SPOON only makes those rims for Honda cars!...dont think its for AE92 mannn...but if u wanna cehck out the rims...do go to SS racing...they have a set 15" 114.3 5 lugs....RM3.3K

Don't be too confident on forged wheel. I quote this from RAYS:

The RAYS Advantage: Like the fibers of a human muscle, the “Metal Flow Line” in addition to being strong, also exhibits flexibility. A cast wheel is prone to cracking due to the porosity or air pockets that reside in the metal alloy due to the casting process. The “Metal Flow Line” is not only more resistant to impacts, but in the case of a severe impact, will tend to bend rather than crack. This is an important safety feature of a RAYS forged wheel.

See this CE28N original that fit into stiff abs EVOs..

yes FORGED wheels will crack rather than bend due to safety feature of the rims...BUT if compare to the Taiwanese rims, it is FAR superior...

if u really wanna TOUGH rims and weight's a side...go for BBS then...d'oh

I am using 15 inch regamaster. It is exactly the same with spoon rims and exactly the same weight. It's up for grab for RM2000 including tyres.

P/S: It is prone to crack but u can get away with a 55 series tyres.I have repaired it twice.Cheers

Hahaha.. See, even worse, it crack.. RAYS says that their forged is designed so that it would not crack but only bend in case of severe impact. If it's crack... waahhh. Better using rim besi only, bend or crack dont make me pening.. even if hit pothole also main langgar jer.. hahaha. If not buy small rims with high profile tyre, 60series, 65series.. but this time ur tyre pulak will "injured". Base on true story.. Hehehe.

Dude,

you don't need to laugh mate. I have been using it for 3 years. It only crack twice. My wife was driving and i don't know what kind off hole have she jumped into.

Do not condamned any particular brand or people. this is a forum where we share our knowledge. And i am selling it not because it will crack. I'm changing to 5 lugs knuckle and going to get the bloody same wheels again.

Sorry dude, no offence but I was laughing at myself.. so jealous yet so poor to even buy 1 piece..
Only can afford P-1 Racing… which is also very light weight.

Coming soon, maybe CE28N. That's why I was laughing... the white guy that I show the pic before also have bend his wheel... it could also happen to me..

Spoon SW388 / Evo regamaster produced by the same manufacturer ie. Desmond. They produced for Spoon as a SW388 wheres for Desmond as Evo Regamaster, u can notice both rims got the same weight , same patern including this longkang inside the spoke n both r forged rim.

I cnp this from one of the website available in the net..

Desmond Regamaster EVOs - These wheels are discontinued and no longer in production. Once our inventory is sold out you will no longer be able to buy Regamaster EVOs new. Each set comes with valve stems and decals (2 decals per rim). Please note the 15" decal goes on the inner lip whereas the 16" goes on the outter lip. Regamaster EVO is the same wheel as the Spoon Sports SW388 which were made by Desmond

1 of the website, click here >> ICB Motorsport.Com

I think immitation rim make a very bad impression to the original rims..

cheers mate

any rims can bend, break, split, crack or even disintegrate into a million pieces. most Malaysian roads are not as good or as nice as the roads our neighbours have. easy - peasy : if you're driving on a bad road, keep the speed low so you can spot the potholes! anyway, those SW388 / Regamaster Evo rims are not only strong, but quite lightweight as well.
