The 991 GT3 might have been Porsche’s crown jewel for quite a while, but unfortunately it would have to share the fame with its less powerful brethren, the Cayman. But make no mistake, this is not the normal Cayman that we have seen so far as this has been refined and pumped in more power to make it worthy in carrying the GT4 badge.
We’ll cut straight to the chase. The Cayman GT4 gets a 3.8-liter flat-six engine derived from the 991 Carrera S, but detuned to produce 380-horsepower; which isn’t bad for a Cayman! Aside from the exciting engine, the transmission is also a highlight of the car as it comes with a six-speed manual gearbox with dynamic gearbox mounts. As a result, zerotohundred takes only 4.4 seconds and will keep on going to a top speed of 295km/h.
With such power, Porsche is claiming that the GT4 is capable in lapping the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 40 seconds, putting it in the same class of cars like the 997 GT3, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and even the Lexus LFA. The 991 Carrera S will also feel the heat as it lapped the ‘Ring in 7:37.9.
Also included in the GT4 package is an aerodynamic package which comprises of a large fixed rear wing, a redesigned hood with an air inlet, a new front bumper with bigger cooling vents, a lip spoiler, and a rear diffuser with two central pipes.
The interior is covered in leather and Alcantara, with the driver getting an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel. If one wishes to go the extra mile, the option list offers a PCCB ceramic brake system, full shell seats made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), a custom Sport Chrono Package with the unique Track Precision app and a Club Sport Package.
The Porsche Cayman GT4 is priced at USD 84,600 (RM 301,531) and will go on sale in March right after its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
