Introduced way back in 2009, the current Volkswagen Polo has seen a minor facelift introduced earlier this year. Well, the TSI model did benefit from the said facelift, leaving the Polo GTI brother in the dark. Fast forward a few months later, VW has been kind to give the Polo a facelift it truly deserves. For the 2015 model year, the Polo GTI will get a redesigned fascia and also a new engine.
The engine that will power the MY15 Polo GTI is the Audi sourced EA888 1.8 L 4-cylinder engine which produces 187 hp and 320 NM of torque. This marks a healthy 10 hp and 70 NM increase over the pre-facelift’s 1.4 L engine. Besides the better engine, the MY15 Polo GTI now gets a proper six speed manual transmission, something the older model did not offer. Good news for those who enjoys the three pedal experience. Zerotohundred is achieved in 6.7 seconds and 236 km/h max speed. Very fast for a small car.
The interior will also be updated, starting with the flat bottomed steering wheel, updated meter cluster and a new center console design.
No word on local availability as yet, as the manual variant would be a hit for the enthusiast market. The new MY15 Polo GTI will make a world debut during the Paris Motor Show. Stay tuned.
