After being spotted several times on Malaysian roads under heavy covers, Renault has finally unveiled the new Fluence sedan into the Malaysian scene. But the ceremony held at Setia City Convention Centre was not only to welcome the new French sedan, but also to witness the signing between Renault and Tan Chong Motors in locally assembling (CKD) the Fluence.
Set to be assembled at the Tan Chong Motor Assemblies’ Segambut plant Gilles Normand, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Region for the Renault Group, and Mr. Kuan Kim Luen, Director and CEO of TC Euro Cars Sdn Bhd, signed an agreement to build the Fluence in Malaysia. This agreement will enable Renault to build its presence and renown not only in Malaysia but also across South-East Asia.
“We are delighted to be strengthening our partnership with Tan Chong Motors, partner to Nissan, with which Renault has been working for over ten years. This agreement marks the start of a new stage in the development of Renault in Malaysia where our ambition is to establish Renault as the second biggest European manufacturer by 2018,” said Gilles Normand.
The new Renault Fluence comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 143-horsepower and 195Nm of torque, mated to the X-Tronic CVT automatic transmission. It comes with an array of passive and active safety features such as driver and passenger airbags, front and rear head level airbags, lateral airbags, ABS with EBD, and Brake Assist. Cruise control, steering bundle audio controls, hands-free telephony and rear air-conditioning vents are also included in the new Fluence.
The Renault R-Link multimedia system is also fitted in the Fluence, where the 7-inch touch screen display and voice activated system incorporates navigation system, telephony function, and could also be connected to portable music players via Bluetooth, USB and jack sockets.
