After two decades, the four-cylinder engine finally makes a comeback in Porsche’s lineup with the new Macan. But this VW Group-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged unit that is shared among names like Audi and Seat is just a temporary solution for the time being as Porsche is in the works of prepping their own four-cylinder boxer engines.

As for the time being, it has yet to be indicated on which model the 1.6-liter engine will be powering, as the ‘baby Boxster’ it is destined to have been cancelled. However, it is said that the first Porsche models to get this new flat-fours are the next Boxster/Cayman and Cayenne.
