With the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed is set to take place not long from now, McLaren is ready to turn heads by making a global debut of its new model. Developed by the manufacturer’s motorsport division, will this new track-focused McLaren be the much-awaited P1 GTR announced recently?
As much as we would like to think so, unfortunately we think that this will most likely be a GT3 version of the 650S. Although the headlights are in no doubt a P1’s, the car portrayed in the teaser image is most probably a 650S, using the side intakes as a reference. With the 650S replacing the MP4-12C in the McLaren line up, it is no surprise to see McLaren coming up with a 650S GT3 to replace the 12C GT3s.
The car will make its global debut on June 27 at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, with McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Jenson Button set to drive the race machine at the event’s hill climb route.
McLaren will also be bringing a fleet of cars ranging from the road cars to the race cars of past and present. Aside from the M7C F1 race car driven by McLaren founder Bruce McLaren himself, a special 650S worked by the McLaren Special Operations personalization department will also be there.
