Keen in redeeming themselves from a disappointing finish back in Round 2 where their Satria Neo race car was unable to reach the chequered flag, R Engineering is back to display their ever-burning fighting spirit in the 2014 Malaysian Super Series Round 3. Greeted by the blazing hot Sepang Circuit, R Engineering are determined to cross the finish line and make it to the podium in this round.
With the engine issue all sorted out, the red and white race car now bears a new racing colour of a yellow-grey combination. And to show that they are back in business, R Engineering once again stuns the crowd by setting the fastest time during qualifying session with a 2:38.403, earning them the top spot on the grid for the Malaysia Touring Production category.
“The qualifying went well and we managed to secure pole position. We struggled a bit during this round because we changed a lot of the setup and had no time for practice, but it all went well. The tire wear was better and lap times were consistent,” said Lai Wee Sing.
With the car perform now in a better state than the last race, the combination of Lai Wee Sing and Alvaro Maurato were ready to take on the pack in the Malaysia touring Production category. Sitting close to them on the grid were Proton R3’s Syafiq Ali in P2 and Team Sakura-Tedco Racing’s Fitra Eri and Mark Darwin in P3. Even before the race has started, we knew this was going to be a fierce fight to the top.
“Our team was a bit slower than the rest, but we managed to catch them up after the pit stop. But then, we were slapped with a drive-through penalty as we did some mistake during the pit stop,” he added.
Even with the drive-through penalty, R Engineering still manages to impress as they pushed on and crossed the finish line in second position after 22 laps of racing, with a gap of 43.313 seconds from the race leader.
