Ferrari will always have prototypes running through the circuits, hinting of what may come from the Italian supercar manufacturer. Although most that had been seen could be instantly recognized as street cars, a mysterious race car spotted at Mugello revealed that the Prancing Horse might be up to something motorsport-related.

Since Ferrari has been hinting that the new 1.6-liter V6 Formula One power plant might be used to power an LMP1 prototype in 2015, a lot are suggesting that this might be Ferrari’s entry into the endurance scene. The scoop from AutoSprint revealed that a mid-engined race car that somehow resembles the LaFerrari was spotted with several aerodynamic modifications, with the most obvious being the large wing at the back.

“At the moment we are concentrated on F1, so it would not be possible to do something else”, said Antonello Coletta, the head of Ferrari’s non-F1 sporting activities.

“That means that we cannot say Ferrari will be in LMP1, but we cannot say that Ferrari will not be in LMP1. We can also not say if our vision is for 2015, 2016 or beyond”.

Like usual, Ferrari is being super-secretive about what they are trying out with the wild prototype, so we would just have to wait and let themselves tell the world what they are up to. But if you were to judge this heavily-camouflage prototype, would you say that it is a future LMP1 car or probably a LaFerrari XX?
