Since 2010, BMW has been fielding the Z4 GT3 in motorsports and it had made numerous appearances various parts of the world. Although we still think that the car looks very cool and has the performance that matches it, the Z4 GT3 has become dated and it is time to make way for a new race machine.
While the replacement will not be taking place anytime soon, the Z4 GT3 will soon leave the motorsports arena to make way for the all-new M6 GT3. Since there are a lot of GT3-spec cars like the Bentley Continental GT entering the scene, it is time for BMW to introduce a new machine to match the new players.
Of course, the usual drill of race-prepping the car will take place. While the 4.4-liter V8 engine will still be under the hood, weight-shaving is a must, as well as fitting a racing gearbox and better brakes.
BWM said that the first tests of the car is planned to take place somewhere around the first quarter of 2015, and customers are able to purchase the BMW M6 GT3 by the end of 2015, allowing them to enter the 2016 BMW Sports Trophy.
“This car’s properties make it predestined to succeed the BMW Z4 GT3. The BMW Z4 GT3 has enjoyed success around the world in recent years, and is very popular among our customers. We obviously want to follow on from this success with the BMW M6 GT3. After all, the target we have set ourselves is to provide our customers with the best possible material,” said BMW Motorsport Director, Jens Marquardt.
