We might have heard of the Porsche 918 Spyder earlier than the Ferrari LaFerrari or the McLaren P1, but it is this Stuttgart machine that takes the longest time to reveal its finalized version. And finally at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche’s new crown jewel is unveiled during the VW Group Night Event.

With the car that “contains the genetic blueprint for the Porsche sportscar in the future”, the 918 Spyder is Porsche’s take on how their next generation cars will be based upon. Powered by a hybrid drive that links the 4.6-liter V8 engine with 600-horsepower to a pair of electric motors generating 115kW (154-horsepower) and 95kW (127-horsepower), the electric motors get their juice from a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that can be fully charged in less than 25 minutes via the optional Porsche Speed Charging Station (DC).

With an impressive combined output of 875-horsepower, Porsche said that the 918 Spyder is capable of sprinting from zerotohundred in just 2.8 seconds, reaching 200km/h in 7.7 seconds and all the way to 300km/h in 22.0 seconds; which is also not far to its top speed of 344km/h.

The 918 Spyder is able to cover 16 – 32 km running purely on electric power, while still giving it the sporty grunt of zerotohundred acceleration in under seven seconds and a limited top speed of 150km/h. With a fully charged battery, Porsche also claims that the Spyder gulps about 3.0 – 3.3 liters/100km.
