The Audi R8 E-Tron – Silent yet Deadly

Enjoy watching a high-performance car tearing up a circuit with a record-breaking lap time? While the Audi R8 E-Tron might have set the fastest lap record around the Nurburgring for a production electric vehicle (EV), the footage is nothing similar to the others that we have seen before as it is missing one of the key element that makes a video outstanding; the roar of the engine.

Driven by former DTM driver Markus Winkelhock, the only sound loud enough for you to hear throughout the footage are the tire squeals and wind noises. The R8 E-Tron is powered by electric motors with 375 horsepower in its disposal. Although that might not sound very impressive compared to the R8 V8 which has 420 horses, it came just five seconds short behind it with an 8:09.099 around the 20.8km track.

While some might see this as a great leap in making motorsports a whole lot greener, this could also spell the end of the thunderous roars from combustion engines which serves as a great symphony to the enthusiasts’ ears. Maybe somewhere in the future, the sound of motorsports will just represented by the tire squeals or some artificially-engineered engine notes. Hopefully such event would not take place, or else a great soundtrack that accompanies this awesome Zonda R footage unleashing its wild V12 over the Nurburgring will just be a thing of the past.
