If there was a title for best new comer at Formula Drift Singapore – This man deserves it

If there was a title for ‘Best New Comer’ then Goodyear Malaysia’s Hanizam Hamzah probably deserves it more than any other drifter at Formula Drift Singapore 2010. The man probably had all the elements going against him, an unsecured bonnet saw it flip open and smash his windscreen during practise, his crew had to race against the clock to find a new windscreen and fix it on time for qualifying, in total it took them about 90-minutes to source for a new windscreen (in Singapore!!) and have it installed. They had it fixed right as he lined up at the start line, great effort.

Later in his best-32 run he had a drama packed run (check out the video to find out), and just to make things harder for him, he was put up against the man who qualified 2nd, Japanese drifter Atsushi Murata. Hanizam aka Loyai put up a brave but well planned battle that saw him take a surprising victory over Murata and that gifted him a place in the quarter-finals. There he went up against Kiwi drifter Fanga Dan and in a close battle, he sadly lost out. But the fact that he shook up the field as a new comer was great. Here’s a great video highlighting his battles, enjoy.

my opinion, he should have win the battle against fanga dan. no?

Unfortunately, no. Fanga-Dan was slower in the peninsula section, and in Run1 this caused Loyai to close up to him too much, and as you can see, he was caught out and ended up straightening out.
In drifting, straightening out is a no-no.
As a top-driver, he knows this, which is why he isn't complaining.
