BMW Introduces Ultra-Lightweight ‘M Bike’

Great news for cycling enthusiast and BMW M division fans because the German automotive powerhouse has introduced a new speed bicycle for serious cycling enthusiasts. To ensure exclusivity the M bike will be built in limited numbers and will be sold both online and through certain BMW dealerships.

The 12.9kg bike will be available in three different frame heights and is constructed of aluminium. It features Match front suspension forks from Manitou, it’s springs have an 80-milimeter deflection. Other features include disc brakes, and a Shimano SLX component group/gear system with a high gear ratio to optimize speed. The BMW M Bike goes on sale this June, click the jump for more information.

Rolling Wonder. The BMW M Bike.

Munich. The BMW M Bike is a spectacular combination of state-of-the-art technology and exclusive design. Disc brakes and an elegant matt anthracite frame with the M logo combine perfectly with the leather saddle, stunning rims and handles, and shiny red seat inlay. Characteristic of the entire M collection, which, like the BMW M model itself, stands for the extraordinary and unique.

The thrill of speed.

Anyone who rides this sporty speed bike through the city or takes a short tour through the countryside will immediately attract a lot of attention – at least for a few seconds. The high total gear ratio transmission delivers astonishing speed.

The best of the best.

The BMW M Bike’s fi’zi:k saddle is made from the highest quality leather with a red inlay. This ensures extra riding comfort and superior grip. The built-in Shimano SLX gear system is light and sturdy. The Manitou Match suspension fork on the front wheel is incredibly durable and the disc brakes make for a clean stop.

Starting in June 2010 BMW M Bikes will be available in a special limited edition at select BMW dealers and online at www.bmw-shop.com.

Here you’ll also find choice textiles and other accessories from the M Collection, including the M Cabin Bag, a travel bag made from the finest leather, or the M Shoes – black sneakers made from a leather-nylon mix, designed in cooperation with Puma.

My enduro full suspension bike is 11.4kg. Ultra lightweight bikes would be less than 10kg. Only wish BMW is serious about making bikes. Hopefully not like Proton.

Those who buy it is only banking on the brand. Serious cyclist would stay away from this plainly because they can get more better equipped bike for the same amount of money. Its a pointless thing really.

Comin from BMW i would have expected more...below mid-range SLX drive train? come on...BMW..should at least come with XTR-sets...If you custom build your own with the same component specs it would prolly only cost you under RM6K but knowing its a BMW 'M' class...i would say you'll goin to get gourged for RM10K-15K the MINIMUM. Regular MTBers would rofl at those specs.

Actually its aimed more as an urban bike hence slicks but BMW should have gone for a higher end component set instead.

Bicycle need good roads that true ,but it do not emits co2 and many more harmful gas in the environment, Government should promote bicycle over automobiles.
