As pointed out by V-Spec in an earlier thread of another R34 GT-R, the crank angle sensor is different. The original RB26 in R34 should have a black cover over the CAS.

We should also give benefit of doubt. Perhaps the owner bought the wrong cams that's supposed to be used in the BNR32 and BCNR33 thus leaving him no choice but to revert to the older CAS. It has happened before here. LOL

check grant and engine number match ? if change you will know..if new grant ask owner wy new grant?

oooo...now i know....so apart from being an older, any disadvantage of the engine in comparison with the R34's RB26?....is it possible that only the head is from older engine but the block remains R34's?

If it's an early R32 block (pre-1991) it will have the narrow-collar crank, one of the biggest weaknesses of the rb26. This will make it prone to oil pump failure.

On the other hand, many otais say that older blocks (the block only, not incl the moving parts) esp. R32s are stronger since they have gone through many more heat-cold cycles, so more 'seasoned'.

Middlehurst Nissan in UK had some problems with R33 and R34 blocks that developed porosity.

Otherwise there's really very little difference between R32, R33 and R34 rb26 engines.
