using hp does not cause fire .. i watch the mythbuster they tried everything on the hp but it does not cause fire. Actually why there is spark or electrostatic is because of us Humans. Our hands conduct electrostatic and when this static are highly charged and the person happens to touch the area that has high density of petrol gas then a flame would most probably spark up. What you can do is, when you get out of your car, use your hands and touch ur car body (metal). Because all cars are grounded hence when ur hands are full of statics results from previous driving or touching anything and if we touch the metal part the static would flow to grounding. Then it is safe to pump petrol, hp can be used but make sure that the static on your hand to be grounded first as a precaution. eg if u talk using hp then ur hand touch ur car metal, then no static already then no sparks ..hehe
