hmm i still remember in the m5 topic, someone said the m5 is faster than the F430. Well, i guess it's not true coz it doesnt even beat the F360 (maybe it does on other tracks, who knows ?) It's kinda suprising to see the corvette is faster than most cars. Would like to know wat's the time for the dodge viper. And not forgetting the ferrari enzo

Btw, i know there's no skyline or supra or some other cars, but this is all that i can find. I dont think the skyline can beat the nsx. Anyway , u can add other cars to the list if u want.

if i'm not mistaken, it's a road legal car.. even it's not practical in some aspects..
correct me if i'm wrong

It is road legal in Britain, I don't know about anywhere else though. It really is a track car and a thinly disguised effort to masquerade as a road car. Same goes for the Atom. All these niche cars came along thanks to the track day boom in Britain.

munky, where's the time for the GT3 RS? It should be way up there.

Anyway, for all its dynamic polish and grunt, the M5 could never beat the laws of physics. It is just too heavy and weight is the killer in performance driving, especially on a track.

That Autocar article really is the main culprit, road test on normal roads, no performance figures or lap times or substantial evidence to back any of the writers opinion. It was a pretty inconclusive piece despite the writers attempt to be conclusive in BMW's favour. And then, just this month's Autocar, they tried to find the World's Best Driver's car and they (5 of them including a racer) rated the F430 to be better than the M5 on both road and track, plus the Ferrari was faster in both wet and dry conditions on the Rockingham track. The credibility of the claim made in the M5 > F430 piece? Go figure.

Actually, these lists give a rough guideline but they cannot be conclusive because of other factors. Track conditions, different drivers, etc. Unless we can get those details as well. Anybody?

That wasn't a normal X5, not by a long shot.

Fabulous thread revival btw, hehe.

yeah.. but still..

they were merely trying to show how gud the 4x4 chasis is, considering how heavy and big it is, yet can still be made fast, very fast, if they wanted to.. imagine if they produce r/gt/gt-r/gt-r v-spec or what not like their japanese makers on their already existing lines of 'stock, off-the factory cars.. :D

my point is, it's quite meaningless to compare cars of different purpose, not to mention price range? one is front engined, 5 seater munich-taxi sedan, another is an all-out, sports car which almost costs double! the fact that those people are comparing f430 and m5 showed that they believe those 2 are great cars, more so the m5 as it can be compared to the mighty fellali?

btw, i love those cars.. in fact i love all 'nice' cars.. if only.. :(

p/s: just browsing for lap times, and stumbled on this thread.. hence the revival.. :)

Nobody is going to buy such a thing.

It is great. The big reason why it is so great is because it is a 4 door saloon that goes like a supercar. For that reason it is an awesome saloon and a great car. Take away the 4 door saloon part and you lose a lot of that awesomeness, and it turns into just another supercar and probably not so great and people wouldn't be raving about it that much.

We all have the same problem, my friend.
