Just a quick reference from you guys.

From your experience using various lube oil, what is the most suitable oil grade that you guys used before. I'm sure everyone here uses like hundreds of different grades, so my question is, what grade give you the most satisfaction.

I'm driving an EJ9 SOHC VTEC. Sometimes i used the Honda semi oil and sometimes Eneos semi syn. I've even tried Petronas, Shell and Caltex and they all seem pretty similar. However, my fingers were itchy and i went to buy a bottle of Q8 Synthetic top of the range one 20W50. I find my engine to be extremely sluggish and the revs don't clims as fast as they used to. Overtaking cars is a real pain now.

I thought it could be the new 185/65/14 tyres that i recently changed from 60 series but it should not affect that badly. Anyone used the Q8 20W50 on their EJ9's of SOHC VTEC and has any opinions to share?

i think 20/50 quite thick la...normally 15/40 should be ok for old engine.. somebody told me laa....dunno.. btw Q8 15/40 semi syn very good.. eneos semy syn 15/40 also good, maxima semi syn 15/40 also good.. i've been using all these three type of oil and i'm really satisfied with Q8 and eneos.. just my opinion

Sort of figured out that 20W50 should be for high compression engines or those high performance turbo engines. I'm struggling to climb Genting Hill with those lubes on. I think i'm gonna change it at 8000Km coz my FC is getting higher due to heavier throttle input trying to compensate the loss of power.

Motul semi syn also good~!!
i am using it at the moment and change it when 10k km, sound s crazy!!

20-50 kinda thick la. i've been using semi syn 10-40 for several years now, my engine still running alive and kicking.has clocked 300,000 KM this year.
brand? hmm... as long it is reputable like castrol, esso, shell, eneos, should be good already.
just that i change the oil according to the manual which is every 5,000 KM.even it stated that i can change it at 7,000-8,000 KM but still I change it at 5,000 KM.
AND DO NOT TRY TO DELAY WHEN THE TIME HAS COME TO CHANGE IT!
sorry to say that some ppl really take this thing for granted...

Well if all the while i've used 20W50, i wouldn't mind the sluggishness but i've changed from a lighter 10W40 and sometimes 15W40 to 20W50, the difference is so noticeable.

I've read some website that slightly thicker grade oil have their benefits too. It'll protect your engine in the longer run and in higher temperature. The downside is, you lose abit in fuel consumption.

refer to ur owner manual.

u just wasting ur money when u using the wrong grade oil....such 20w50.

Vtec engine is kinda difren fr other engine. nomatter urs is Sohc or Dohc...

i'm using Q8 semi 15/40 now (actually i also selling it lar..) and the response is "more or less" the same like my previous VTEC LEV...however if really wanna make a choice here...i would choose VTEC LEV (best for honda and build for Vtec).
