Yamaha, among being a Motorbike manufacturer, is also an Engineering Design and Build consultant (a bit like Lotus). The 2ZZ is more high tech than the 1ZZ as it has Metal Matrix Composite Liners (1ZZ iron liners), Variable Valve Timing & Lift (1ZZ only variable timing) and some other stuff that I've forgoten. Lotus last Produced their OWN branded engine in 1993, the 3.5 litre V8 seen in the Esprits. However Lotus Engineering are/were involved in many General Motors Engines such as the Corvette ZR1's LT1 engine, GM's Ecotec series engines etc. Lotus also used Renault Engines in F1 (In 1985 Ayrton Senna won his first race powered by Renault(Portugal GP), & in 1986 he won using a pneumatic actuated valve in a Renault powered Lotus, that being the first victory for a pneumatic valved engine.) Reason the Lotus Elise/Exige uses Yamaha designed Toyota engine is supply and cost. Rover K-series are running out, and not US compliant and it's cheaper (for a tiny manufacturer like Lotus) to by a Globally accepted engine High Performance engine than design one. Especially since Lotus makes cars in small numbers. The Rover K series that had 150bhp is the VVT K-series. Lotus also used the 118bhp version, 135 and 190 bhp VHPD K series engine. The "close to 200bhp" CAMPRO exist but it's a strictly RACE engine.
