Steps below:

1. Drain old oil.
2. Pour in new mineral oil - same grade as ur current oil if possible.
3. Run for 30 mins - let it idle for 10 mins n rev high up to 6k for few seconds.
4. Drain dirty oil - will see black gunk.
5. Change oil filter - make sure u get originals, if Mitsu engine, get Mitsu filters.
6. Pour new semi-synth oil - there will be tappet noise for a couple of minutes.

Repeat above steps every 20000km or less depending on how u drive. If always boost around, 10000km is recommended. Can drag longer up to 15000km but again, it depends.

If you do not wish to repeat the flushing process with either engine flushing fluids/engine oil, you can try this as well.

Do the flushing with an engine flushing system (STP/ Speedmetal) then use either Motul Turbolight engine oil ( Semi syn 15/40) or use Q8 full syn if you have the budget. Its pretty much confirm to eliminate tappet noise ( I've tried it with many Mitsu 4g series engine variants).

I have no ideas wat additives or ingredients are in these 2 types of engine lubricants but they eliminate tappet noise atfer 250-500 km of using them.

thnks blowfish...just fyi im currently running on Q8 F1 Full Synthetic oil wiz tufoil treatment...so far so good apart from tappet noises sometimes but not s often s b4...

truth is im still not exactly satisfied...no doubt d problem has very much improved thru trial n error wiz all ur opinions n advices etc etc but it wld b great if i (we) cld find out a permanent solution 2 dis problem...

more suggestions?? :)

hi all,
i'm also seeing similar problem here with my 4G91, but based on my mechanics, the oil pump is faulty which need replacement(with 2nd item) and also service the lifter as well....cost me 300++

Bro,

I had that tappet noise too. I changed from petronas syn 5000, to Q8 semi 10W-40, and the noise was still there. Now, using HKS oil, and the tappet noise is minimal. Only for a few seconds when the engine is cold. Cleaning the tappets will get rid of the noise, but it will come back again later...so, not worth the money.

Anyone planning to buy the lash adjuster from http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/product157.html ? Got discount if we buy a lot. Does a 4g93 DOHC require 16 units?

The sound is by design... n difficult to get rid off. Better to just live with it.

hi guys, reading ur comments here really gives me lots of ideas..

well when i juz transplanted my 4g63t, it was very nice, now after 3 to 4 cheap castrol gtx oil change ...the sounds it getting more n more obvious n truth be told, im sick of it....when i had my 4g93p i actually got rid of that shit coz the tappets are killing me..n now the 4g63 is giving me the same problem

someone told me before that the problems comes from a faulty or a not very well working oil pump..apparently the pump doest do the work of pumping the oil up to the top head n hence the lifters starts its noises. please advice ...any mech around here...

but ill try the motul or q8 and the engine flushes...

thankx again dudes.

so for me.. my 4g63 also mak a noise usually in da mownin....

thank 4 da info....

if using engine oil as flush detergent,

my comment is try to use thinner oil grade for flush....

let's say u r running wit 20w/50 engine....so when u flush, u use 10w/40 or thinner to flush it...it wil be better....

then final oil only use back ur 20W/50 engine oil...

my 2cent

*correct me if im wrong.
