Isn’t this interesting? Last week we had the lovely news of the BMW M4 that was chosen as the safety car for the Moto GP race and this week we’re greeted with another piece of automotive artwork from the World Touring Car Championship. Set for its inaugural appearance next month in April in Moulay El Hassan Circuit of Marrakech in Morocco, the new Alfa Romeo 4C coupe will be on guard duty for the WTCC race.

Voted as ‘The most beautiful car of 2013’ – the Alfa Romeo 4C packs a miniature 1.75-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder engine that produces 240bhp and 350nm to the road via the rear wheels. Although by modern standards, 240bhp doesn’t sound like a lot of power… however the 4C only weighs a featherlight 895kg (dry) which means it has a power to weight ratio equivalent of 270bhp per tonne. Zerotohundred is dealt with in just 4.5 seconds thanks to a Alfa’s own dry dual-clutch transmission.

We’ve always believed that the 4C is a magnificent piece of engineering and its involvement in motorsports we think will bring more likes towards it. Yes, apparently it doesn’t drive as great as it looks but its reminisce of the Lancia Stratos of the early days we think is absolute perfection. Let’s just hope it doesn’t break down on duty at WTCC yes?
