Behold! KTM’s new stylish electric scooter, dubbed the E-Speed, that was unveiled at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show recently, shows off it’s true form and might we say it’s widened our eyes and has our hearts racing to get our hands on one.
It seems that KTM has thrown in the same liquid cooled 15bhp / 36Nm motor with a 4.36kWh battery pack that was supposedly meant to for their recently scrapped idea of an electric dirt bike by the name of the KTM Freeride E concept.
The KTM E-Speed is still in its concept stage, with KTM’s CEO, Stefan Pierer, announcing their electric scooter study and further stating that they are now “completely convinced of electric mobility as a perfect complement to conventional powertrains.”
It makes perfectly good sense at this point in time that the utilization of an all-electric drive for short distances will be the most preferred mode of transportation, especially in environmentally sensitive locations or even locations that are densely populated. Whatever the case may be, an electric scooter will have found very good use for its existence.
At the moment, the KTM E-Speed is capable of achieving a top speed of 85kmh with a range of around 60km; afterwhich, it’ll only take about 2.5hrs to get it fully charged from a regular 220V plug-point.
The KTM E-Speed will come equipped with a suspension system from WP, ABS and a single-sided front and rear wheel linkages. But best of all, it definitely won’t cramp your style, unlike BMW’s rather mature looking C Evolution or Honda’s simplistic EV-Neo or even the cute-looking Electric Drive Scooter from SMART. For that, we hail the Kiska design team for their work on the E-Speed.
However good the E-Speed may look, there’s nothing definitive coming from KTM about the E-Speed seeing the inside of a production facility just yet. Lets just keep our fingers crossed on this one for the time being.
