I’m not a gadget fan. I can live with old phones, a first generation iPod Touch, a banged up & stickered out laptop, but this gadget here is friggin cool and makes me want to upgrade my phone and get a steering wheel for it. No doubt it’ll make me look like a show-off moron if I were to pull it out and start racing on a LRT but it’s still a cool gadget. A racing simulator is always fun if you’re a car-nut, which is why the CTA Digital Steering Wheel for the iPhone, iPhone 3GS and first or second-generation iPod Touch is interesting to race game fans.
The wheel is basically a plastic shell that snaps onto your i-whatever to help make the device feel like a small steering wheel. It has been intelligently designed to allow your fingers access to the virtual buttons for braking, nitro and such that are located on the i-whatever. CTA offers two versions of the wheel, one with a suction cup mount and one without.
Our source suggests two reasons why this is a cool gadget: i) the bigger radius of the wheel’s grip can help ease hand cramping caused by prolonged playing for people with big hands. ii) The suction cup mount means that iPhone/iPod racing games can be played with one hand, ideal for lazy people.
If you spend hours playing Need for Speed: Undercover or Ferrari Challenge, then check out the video below to see how this wheel can help you rack up the points. No price is available yet, but expect it to be somewhere in the region of RM150, if you find it.
