Nissan’s radical BladeGlider Concept Car set to make appearance at Tokyo Motor Show

The DeltaWing was a revolutionary and radical race car deployed by Nissan in the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans. Despite its bad luck during the race which forced it into an early retirement, the car ran really well and garnered a lot of attention from all over. Although Nissan soon pulled out from the project, they came out with their own prototype soon after, dubbed the ZEOD RC.

But the ZEOD RC was designed to be a track machine, and Nissan had recently revealed something that everyone could use on the roads. It is called the BladeGlider and like the ZEOD RC, it is inspired by the DeltaWing with the purpose of “reinventing the wheel”. Born with a narrow front track and wide rear to minimize drag and optimize stability, the BladeGlider has a 1 + 2 seating arrangement that puts the driver in the center like the McLaren F1.

Since this radical road-goer is still a concept, we could only gather little information of its specifications. But we do know that this Electric Vehicle (EV) will be powered by a lightweight lithium-ion battery, bear carbon-fiber bodywork and the weight distribution is heavily biased towards the rear at 30:70.

“The goal was to revolutionize the architecture of the vehicle to provoke new emotions, provide new value and make visible for consumers how Zero Emissions can help redefine our conception of vehicle basics”, said Francois Bancon, the division general manager of Product Strategy and Product Planning at Nissan.
