In order to give the consumers a peek into BMW’s user interface in the future, the brand recently took the covers off their new i Vision Future Interaction concept at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 in Las Vegas. This new concept is based on the i8 Concept Spyder and what really catches our attention is the absence of doors on this i Vision Future.

But the focus on this concept definitely is not the doors or the roof as the i Vision Future is BMW’s answer to the future’s anticipated demand for digital networking in the age of autonomous driving.

“On the one hand, it supports the driver in manual driving mode with a clearly defined focus. On the other hand, when the vehicle is in its highly automated mode, the interior provides an opportunity to relax in the innovative seats and to make proactive use of the time gained through the expanded content available on the central information display,” said BMW.

The three main items in the i Vision Future Interaction concept is a large Head-Up Display (HUD) projected to the windscreen, a 3D instrument cluster, and a 21-inch panorama display screen on the dashboard. This panorama display can be operated by a new Air Touch gesture control method via sensors in the dashboard, allowing users to operate without touching the screen itself.

The Open Mobility Cloud from BMW offers data connectivity and access to the web and video content in the car. The i Vision Future concept features no physical switches or dials on the dashboard, and the gear selector has been moved to the steering column. Three driving modes are offered on this new concept: Pure, Assist, and Auto.
